While Reading.....(the best kept secret)
Curtis isn't acknowledging Charlotte because he doesn't know if matthew is his son. Matthew is starting to notice it so they send him off to his Aunties house. Things at home aren't good and eventually Aaron told the whole church about his affair with Charlotte. Of course everyone is wowed, and they figure he must be psychotic. He even made flyers about him and Charlottes 'wedding' which he posted to everyones cars. This further distances Charlotte and Curtis, and even wrose Charlotte finds out she is pregnant- and the baby could be Aarons. One night, Aaron calls her and says that she will regret her actions and before you know it Charlotte and Curtis' home is on fire. Curtis meanwhile was somewhere else at some corner store about to hook up with this lady from their church. He finds out that his house is ablaze because Aaron calls him, and despite all of the things that he and charlotte have been going through he goes into the house and saves her. In the hospital the doctors find out that Charlotte is fine and tells Curtis, then they also say "the little one is doing just fine". Curtis had no idea about the pregnancy and starts laughing, then gets furious. This could be the make or break point, so they have a paternity test and Charlottes friend pays the doctor to say that Curtis is the father. A year later they have a baby girl, a bigger nicer house, everything is just the way Charlotte wanted it to be. Little does she know that while Curtis is away on his trips he is with that lady from Church and once Matthew grows up he has vowed to divorce Charlotte.

While Reading.....(the best kept secret)
Charlotte is starting to recognize that she can't keep having this affair. Something about the affair is subtracting from her attraction to her husband, and he doesnt like it. Although he isn't aware of the affair yet, he blew up on Charlotte because of the problem they are experiencing. He feels bad after but they try to make things up. He plans a nice dinner for her the next evening which means charlotte has to cancel her plans with Aaron. Aaorn doesnt like this and he expects charlotte to divorce her husband and marry him. Anyways, Charlotte and Curtis have a nice dinner and he drives her to a nice hotel- a hotel that Charlotte and Aaron have been hooking up at- and the front desk lady recognizes Charlotte right away. Charlotte feels humiliated and can't look her in t he eye, but proceeds to the room with her husband. After Charlotte and Curtis make love curtis notices a dark hickey on her thigh and totally freaks out. He immediately knows whats up- especially since thats what he was all about before his turn about- and totally flips out. Charlotte made up a stupid lie and says that at the gym the bicycle machine was broken and did that to her leg but he doesn't buy it. She lies until the end, and somehow Curtis finds it in his heart to forgive her but warns her it better not happen again. Although he has forgive her, on the car ride home Aaron calls them on the car phone saying something about how Matthew may not be Curtis' son and that Charlotte was sleeping with her cousins fiancee at the time, slept with her professor and someone else on the night before her and Curtis' wedding. It was all true but of course Charlotte denied most of it, besides the sleeping with the fiancee. Curtis can't take it anymore and just tells her to get out.Aaron continues making phone calls to charlotte making propsition that she either marries him and divorces charlotte or he will spill the beans about everything. Curtis meanwhile dow not want to speak to anyone at all except for his son Matthew because thats the only person he's got. He wants to be the best father he can to Matthew to make sure that Matthew can have everything that he didn't have himself as a child.

While Reading.....(the best kept secret)
My Grandma wasn't kidding when she said everyone has secrets. I thought it was kind of strange that everything just started happening so quickly, but then I remembered that this book is one out of a series revolving around this/these character/s. In the beginning, Kimberla introduces the main characters: Curits Black, his wife Charlotte and his son Matthew. When Charlotte was 17 and Curtis was 37, they were sleeping together and she became pregnant with Matthew. They didn't stay together, but after all of Curtis' other marriages-yes there were multiple- and churches failed, he went back to Charlotte. Curtis' past involved dirty churches (as in he was scamming everyone), cheating on his wives and giving into certain temptations; with his first wife he has a 16 year old daughter who is named Alicia. Since Curtis wasn't exactly that great of a father, Alicia acted out in the regular ways, but took it to the point where she met a man online who she met up with in real life and he raped her. Curtis saw this as a turning point in his life, he didn't have his wife anymore, but he wanted to be the best father he could be. Also, there was a situation where he cheated on one of his wives with this psycho lady and she ended up shooting him and then committing suicide, and that is a giant turning point where Curtis decided it was time to skip town and start over. That is when he began seeing Charlotte again; they rekindled their love and got married. They started a church together in their new home and everything seemed to be going perfect, although Curtis wasn't making as much money as Charlotte had hoped(he made big bucks at his other churches). Anyways, all the sudden I discover that Charlotte is having an affair with Curtis' 'best friend'. His name is Aaron, and he tells Charlotte he loves her. Charlotte knows this is wrong and that she shouldn't be doing this, but there was something about this man that couldn't keep her away.Things kept escalating to te point where charlotte was going to hotels and ditching church meetings to hook up with Aaron. Curtis doesn't really know what the problem is but he knows that there has to be something more wrong with Charlotte to make her not make love to him, and its not her job thats causing that.

Interview 1
I chose to interview my grandmother about books that have impacted her life. Something you should no before I continue is that my grandmother is a minister at her church. So anyways, I had already told her about this assignment and that it would be about a book that has impacted her life somehow, and when I arrived at her house she already had a book ready! It was called The Best Kept Secret written by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Its from a series of books that focuses on one(or more) of the characters within this book.
During the interview she said she read the book sometime over the last ten years and she reall enjoyed it. She said there were a lot of secrets and surprises and kept asking whether I was mature enough to read this book. I have read all sortrs of books in all kinds of different levels so I was pretty sure it was nothing I hadn't seen before.
According to my grandmother, The Best Kept Secret focuses on a man name Curtis Black's families and the screts that they have. The reason it impacted her is because the characters in this book are involved in church positions like the Pastor or Treasurer-things like that- and each of them has some crazy secret or personality that nobody knows about. She said it gave her another perspective that there are things that the people in her own church do that she may or may not know about, and to just be aware of these thing and that not everyone is perfect.
